Saint Louis University invites applications for an institutional nomination to the 2024 Pew Scholars Program in the Biomedical Sciences award sponsored by the Pew Charitable Trusts. SLU will conduct an internal competition for interested faculty.

The deadline for applications, which must be submitted using SLU’s OpenWater system, is April 21, 2023. Please read the information below about the process and eligibility criteria carefully. Pew has made some changes to its criteria reflecting the impact of COVID-19 on the productivity of individual researchers over the past two years.

 

Guidance for the Nomination Process

Interested applicants should submit pre-proposal materials by April 21, 2023 (including a 2-page project description and CV) in OpenWater at this link: https://slu.secure-platform.com/a/solicitations/120/home

• A SLU faculty selection committee will review and select the most suitable applicant for the Pew Scholars Program nomination and notify all applicants by May 17, 2023.

• After the Pew program office has received the nomination from SLU, application information will be emailed directly to the selected applicant on or around June 12, 2023. The Pew online application website will open on June 12, and the submission deadline is September 7, 2023.

 

Eligibility Criteria

• Candidates must have been awarded a doctorate in biomedical sciences, medicine, or a related field, including engineering or the physical sciences.

• As of September 7, 2023, nominees must run an independent lab and hold a full-time appointment at the rank of assistant professor. Appointments such as research assistant professor, adjunct assistant professor, assistant professor research track, visiting professor, or instructor are not eligible.

• Candidates must not have been appointed as an assistant professor at any institution prior to June 12, 2019, whether or not such an appointment was on a tenure track. Time spent in clinical internships, residencies, in work toward board certification, or on parental leave does not count as part of this four-year limit. Candidates who took leave should contact Pew's program office to ensure that an eligibility exception is given.
