The award & eligibility criteria

The aim of the Mathers Grant Program, awarded by the G. Harold and Leila Y. Basic scientific research, ideally with potential translational application, is central to this goal, and fundamental to the operating principles of the Foundation.

Immunology, microbiome, genomics, structural biology, cellular physiology, and neuroscience, are some examples of current research support.

The grant duration is three years, and grant budgets should not exceed $600-750K over three years. Indirect costs (included in the grant budget) cannot exceed 10%. The award cannot be used for purchasing capital equipment and is intended only to support the actual investigation.

Guidance for the nomination process

An internal competition will be held to assign the single slot. Interested PIs should submit a 1-2 page summary of their proposed project, and C.V. or NIH Biosketch, through SLU’s OpenWater portal by November 6, 2023 at 5pm: https://slu.secure-platform.com/a/solicitations/146/home.

A SLU faculty selection committee will review and select the most suitable applicant.  Applicants will be notified of the outcome by November 13, 2023, barring any unforeseen circumstances.  The Portal registration due date is November 17, 2023, and the LOI deadline is December 1, 2023.  If selected, the full proposal is due March 1, 2024.
