The Award & Eligibility Criteria

St. Baldrick’s Foundation Research Grant is for specific research projects which are hypothesis driven and may be either laboratory, clinical, or epidemiological in nature. Grant will be $100,000/year for two years.

Current funding priorities are divided into four categories:

• New discovery research

• Translational research and early phase clinical trials

• Phase III clinical trials & infrastructure support of participating institutions (primarily the fall grant cycle)

• Education of new pediatric oncology researchers

In addition to research to understand the biology of childhood cancers and discover leads to more effective treatments, topics of interest include, but are not limited to:

• Adolescents & young adults

• Survivorship, outcomes, and quality of life

• Supportive care

• Epidemiology and pediatric cancer predispositions

• Precision medicine

• Alternative & complementary therapies

Your 1-page proposal should briefly describe: 1) Area of focus of the research project (childhood cancer type or other research focus) 2) Relevance of the proposed research project to the mission of St. Baldrick’s; to find cures for childhood cancers and give survivors long and healthy lives 3) Brief rationale for the proposed research project and 4) Brief timeline of the progression of research.   References cited may be included on a second page.

In addition to the proposal, please include:

·       Project title

·       Complete a general audience/lay abstract

·       PI Biosketch (current NIH template)  

 

Guidance for the Nomination Process

 An internal competition will be held to assign the single slot. Interested PIs should submit proposal materials in OpenWater by November 11,2024 here: https://slu.secure-platform.com/a/solicitations/186/home

A SLU faculty selection committee will review and select the most suitable applicant and notify all applicants of the outcome by November 20,2024 barring any unforeseen circumstances. The letter on intent is due to funder on December 9,2024.

Eligibility Criteria

Research Grant applicants must hold at least an M.D./D.O. or Ph.D.  Applicants need not be American citizens; however, they must work at an academic, medical, or research institution within the United States.
